Different Coffee Drinks: Five Families and One Bean

Different coffee drinks at Hyper Energy Bar — signature and classic lattes, americano, cold brew and chai, all built on the Huey Blend

A coffee board can look like a long list of different coffee drinks until you notice it is really five families with a lot of members. What separates them is method — what happens to the coffee, and what we add to it. Once you can name the five, ordering anywhere stops being guesswork. And on our board there is a second simplification: one bean runs through all of it.

The five families of different coffee drinks

Every drink on our coffee menu belongs to one of these:

  • Espresso with milk — the latte family, and by far our biggest. Ten named versions before you change a thing.
  • Espresso with water — the Americano, hot or iced. Same shots, no milk, a cleaner read.
  • Cold-steeped — cold brew, which steeps long and slow and comes out round rather than sharp, even taken black.
  • Tea-based — our chai latte, made with Oregon Chai and milk. Spice instead of espresso.
  • No coffee at all — hot chocolate, the only thing on the board with zero caffeine.

That last family gets forgotten, and it is the one that saves group orders. If someone in your car does not drink coffee, they still have something waiting.

Ten lattes, split into two kinds

The latte family is where the choices pile up, so we split it for you. Five are signature recipes we built and named: Campfire with marshmallow, chocolate and brown sugar cinnamon; Butter Bomber with butterscotch, shortbread and caramel; Caramel Crush with French vanilla and caramel; Peanut Butter Clutter with peanut butter, caramel and chocolate; and the Rip 6, which is six espresso shots and 405 mg of caffeine in every size.

The other five are the classics you already know by name — mocha, white chocolate mocha, French vanilla, caramel and salted caramel. The difference is not quality, it is who is driving. A signature latte is a finished idea, so stripping it back rather defeats the point of ordering one. A classic is closer to a starting point you direct yourself, and that is where our flavor list comes in.

What you can change after you pick a family

Once the family is settled, the rest is yours. Hot or iced. Whole, skim, almond or oat milk. Sugar-free where the flavor has a sugar-free version, and most of ours do. And with a classic latte, you can steer it with anything from our mix-and-match flavor list.

Here is the part we like best: every espresso drink on the board starts from the same house blend, our Huey Blend, roasted in Iowa. The families do not differ by coffee. They differ by method and by what we add. So if you liked one latte and not another, that was the milk, the syrup or the shot count talking — not the bean.

Working through our different coffee drinks list

There is a whole other half of the counter if the coffee mood passes. Over 89 flavors, 34 sugar-free, and more than 100 combinations, with your choice of a caffeine or Italian soda base. Plus, explore our delicious sugar-free options! Build one from up to three flavors at no extra cost, or grab a house drink by name. Seasonal drinks come and go through the year, and the fall Hyper Huddle is on our specials page right now.

You will find all of it at our nineteen stores across Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, with three more on the way. Most of us open at 6:00 AM Monday through Saturday and 7:00 AM on Sunday, and our store locator has each store’s own hours and phone number. Join Hyper Rewards with your phone number and your next visit comes with a free small or medium drink — a good way to start on family number two. Stay hyped.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main types of coffee drinks?

Five families: espresso with milk (lattes), espresso with water (Americano), cold-steeped (cold brew), tea-based (our chai latte) and one with no coffee at all (hot chocolate). Everything on our coffee board fits into one of them.

How many lattes are on your menu?

Ten named lattes — five signature recipes (Campfire, Butter Bomber, Caramel Crush, Peanut Butter Clutter and the Rip 6) and five classics (mocha, white chocolate mocha, French vanilla, caramel and salted caramel). That is before any changes you make to them.

What can I change about a coffee drink here?

Hot or iced, whole, skim, almond or oat milk, and sugar-free wherever the flavor has a sugar-free version. With a classic latte you can also steer it with our mix-and-match flavors. Ask an Energista and they will talk you through the options.
