Energy Drink Places Are Not All Built the Same Way

Energy drink places at Hyper Energy Bar with a drive-thru lane, a walk-up window and an inside counter

Search energy drink places and you get a map full of pins that all look identical. They are not. Some hand you something cold from a fridge. Some build it in front of you. And even among the ones that build it, how you get to the window changes the whole visit. Here is what actually separates one stop from another, and how ours are set up.

What sets energy drink places apart before you even order

The first question is whether anything gets made.

A cooler door is a cooler door. What you pull out of it was mixed in a factory months ago, and your only choice is which can. We work the other way around. Nothing is poured until you ask for it, which is why the same order can come back different for two people standing together.

Our Hyper-Infused Energy line is the house product, and it starts from a base rather than a can. Our Energistas mix and match with you until the cup is actually yours. Not sure what goes together? Ask them. That is the job.

Lane, window or counter

Here is the part almost nobody mentions, and it changes how long you are there.

Our locations come in three shapes. Some are a drive-thru lane and nothing else, so you stay in the car from start to finish. Most pair that lane with a walk-up window, which means you can park and step up without joining the queue of cars. Two of ours have no lane at all.

Ames and Iowa City are counters. You come inside, you order at the counter, and the pace is slower on purpose. Builds take a little longer because you are watching them happen. The snack shelf tends to become part of the visit, which is exactly the point.

Three questions worth asking at any energy drink places you try

Whatever stop you end up at, these three tell you most of what you need.

Can it be made without caffeine? Ours can. Italian soda is our caffeine-free base, and the same flavors sit on it. Nobody in the car gets handed a bottle of water instead.

How much caffeine is actually in it? Over 89 flavors, 34 sugar-free, and more than 100 combinations, with your choice of a caffeine or Italian soda base. Plus, explore our delicious sugar-free options! A regular Infused Energy carries 93 mg in a small, 127 in a medium and 194 in a large. Pick your flavors from the mix-and-match list.

Is sugar-free real or just a label? Most of our flavors have a sugar-free version. Two of our house drinks cannot go fully sugar-free, and we will tell you which rather than let you find out later.

Sometimes what you actually want is espresso. Our coffee menu runs from signature lattes to classic ones, plus cold brew and Americanos. Hot or iced, your call. The Rip 6 sits at the top with 405 mg in every size, six espresso shots deep. Whatever is running seasonally lives on our specials page.

Where to find our energy drink places

Three of ours, three different setups.

Ankeny is at 1101 S Ankeny Boulevard, Ankeny, IA 50023, on (515) 633-8164, with a lane and a walk-up window. Belton keeps it to the lane at 1006 E North Avenue, Belton, MO 64012, on (816) 281-0490. Ames is the counter, at 2320 Lincoln Way, Suite 130, Ames, IA 50014, on (515) 534-3199. Our store locator lets you filter by setup before you drive anywhere.

Before your first stop, join Hyper Rewards with your phone number. No app, no card, and a free small or medium drink lands on your next visit. Tuesdays earn double points, and your birthday brings another free one. Among energy drink places, the setup matters as much as the menu. Pick the one that fits your day, and welcome to the Hyper family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes energy drink places different from each other?

Two things mostly. Whether the drink is made when you order it or pulled from a cooler, and how you reach the window. Ours are built to order from a base, and our locations come as a drive-thru lane, a lane plus a walk-up window, or an inside counter.

Do you have a drive-thru at every location?

Almost. Most of our stores have a drive-thru lane, and many of those add a walk-up window so you can park and step up instead. Ames and Iowa City are the exceptions. Both are walk-in counters with no lane, and the slower pace there is deliberate.

Can I get something without caffeine?

Yes. Italian soda is our caffeine-free base, and lemonades are caffeine-free too. The same flavors sit on the caffeine-free base as on the others, so you are not stuck with a plain option while everyone else builds something.
